Good price for the ukulele and extras provided including the hard case. A little hard to tune out of the box but the DVD gave us the information to do the job. My 10 year old is loving the ukulele!

      Great uke for the money!

Posted by Unknown on 8th Sep 2015

I've tried a lot of entry level ukes but couldn't quite pull the trigger until I tried my daughter's soprano Kala. I was impressed with the quality and especially the good intonation...which is a problem that seems to plague cheap ukes. Being in the market for a concert sized uke, I went for the KA-C model and hoped it would be similar quality as it's smaller cousin.

Right out of the box, it played well. The fit and finish was okay, but keep in mind the fact that these are made in China at a price point where quality control is iffy. The edges of the binding were quite sharp. I hit them with some fine grit emery cloth and now it's perfect. The action...while playable...did greatly improve after a little work. I don't hold this against Kala....all ukes in this price range are going to have similar issues.

I love playing this instrument. There's no mistaking that it's made of laminate, but the tone is decent, all things considered.

The "bundle" with the tuner and foam case is a good deal. The tuner works fine. The case is made of styrofoam and covered with nylon. Not the greatest quality, but worth the extra money. Already, I've had one seam start to let go but it was an easy (and invisible) repair with epoxy. It's still much better protection than a gig bag, and well worth the few bucks extra. Remember: a humidifier won't work in a gig bag.

I also had the opportunity to try the MKA-C which is apparently a Makala / Kala (same company) special edition made for Austin Bazzar. Somehow, there was a mixup in the warehouse, and I initially got sent one by accident. (The folks in the service dept made things right) Anyway, I can say with certainty that while the MKA-C is 'okay', the KA-C is worth the little extra. It's not just the trim and sealed tuners....the KA-C sounds better.

I know I've pointed out a few things that were less than perfect with the KA-C, but I'm just being critical. The fact is that the Kaka KA-C is a great uke....probably the best in this price range. I'd buy it again, and highly recommend it.

I like the sound of the Kala and everything that came with it. With the bundle, it was easy to start playing and enjoying the Ukulele. The polyfoam case is very nice and the tuner is easy to use.
