This Kala is a great uke for a beginner. The concert size is a great size and much more room for larger fingers than a soprano size uke. The mahogany is quite beautiful, the woodworking is extremely well done for this price range. There are cheaper ukes for beginners, but the Kala KA-C is worth the few extra bucks. Aquila strings are certainly a plus, and help this uke produce great music. This does not have the sound of a $400 ukulele, but it still sounds much better than most in this price range. I stretched the strings like it says to do on the included DVD, and the Kala holds a tune very well - all through a 25-40 minute practice session! The gig bag is pretty good. Good zippers, and a decent sized pocket to hold some things. I wish I had spent the few extra bucks on the hard case, but I'm probably not going to be taking this uke out so much that I will actually need a hard case. The gig bag fits the uke well, and has straps and handle. The tuner works extremely will, and the polishing cloth is nice for wiping down the strings and body of the uke after practice. This package is definitely worth the cost!
This rank beginner is very pleased with her first uke - practicing and playing with others is a pleasure. Good sound, stays tuned, the package was a good deal.
