The Harmonium is an instrument that is used in almost every genre of music in the subcontinent of India. Although not native to India (the Harmonium originated in Europe), this hand pumped reed organ with bellows is a staple accompaniment in the religious singing of prayers. The Harmonium is composed of the following parts: bellows, keys, cover, main stops, and drone stops. It is played while the player is seated on the floor. The player plays the keys with the right hand (if the player is righthanded) and pumps the bellows with the left hand. This Empire Harmonium is ideal for the beginning student.
