Features Rope Lacing

The Dholak is a percussion instrument from the subcontinent of India. It is played horizontally by hand and is used frequently in Indian film music or in Punjabi (bhangra) music. This Empire brand Dholak features traditional rope lacing. This Dholak features metal rings through which the ropes are pulled to tune the instrument. The righthand head features a simple layer of skin, while the lefthand head features a permanant layer of Dholak masala (a mixture of tar, clay and sand which lowers the pitch) on the inner side of the playing surface.
